“Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality.” ~ Emily Dickinson With Christmas being just around the corner, I’ve been thinking a lot about my Aunt Elinor (Eln). She was our family’s North Star…the guiding light that brought us all together and made our gatherings special. Even though she was unable to have children of her own, she […]
“Look for a way to lift someone up. And if that’s all you do, that’s enough.” ~Elizabeth Lesser One certainty of life is that we will encounter folks who will not only turn their backs on us, they will enjoy deflating our spirit and seeing us fall. That’s okay. Let them go. In their place will step in those rare […]
Autumn ignites the fire in my soul,Intense flames roaring hot.A bonfire of epic proportions.A spiritedness within me,Rejuvenating me to the core.Leaves fall and flames dwindle, but...Smoldering embers linger.Warmth through the bitter months that follow.A magical escape for recollection,Until my soul is ablaze once more.
“The voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses.” e.e. cummings It is said our eyes are the windows to our souls. I believe that to be true. Eyes confess so much if you truly observe. Our eyes are like miniature crystal balls, revealing every emotion that churns in the background. I suppose that’s why I’ve always been so […]
“Intention is more than wishful thinking-it’s willful direction. It is a philosophy of the heart put into practice, a consistency of conscious patterns of thought, energy, and action. Through intention, we see more and create with more clarity, passion, and authenticity. Our attention then becomes a spotlight for every shred of supporting evidence that we’re on the right path.” ~ […]
“You must go on adventures to find out where you truly belong. ” Sue Fitzmaurice I have always been an adventure seeker. As a child, I grew up in a small town and didn’t have a lot of options, so I relied heavily on my imagination. I learned to make the most of the world around me. I would spend […]
A’s fan: “Hello there, Mr. Clemente. Nice to meet you.” Roberto Clemente: “Here, let me remove that elephant from your head. This is Pittsburgh, Son.”
If there’s one thing I’ve discovered during my many years of attending running events, it’s that there’s always an inspirational story waiting to be told and that heroes come in all shapes and sizes. This image speaks volumes and it warms my heart. They’re both heroes in my eyes.
A world beyond our smartphones….. I shot these images outside of PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA. These folks were waiting for the ballgame (Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Oakland Athletics). Each one captured my attention. As you can see, they all have something in common…they’re looking down, rather than up. We live on a great big beautiful planet, filled with interesting human […]
San Francisco’s Golden Gate is one of my all-time favorite architectural designs; however, there is no shortage of beautiful bridges in Pittsburgh, PA. The portion of skyline in the background enhances the Roberto Clemente Bridge in this image.
The 2nd lovely woman to be featured in my True Beauty Series is Sarah “Cleo” Potts. She’s a 26 year old medical student at LECOM (Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine) in Erie, PA. She is finishing up her final year and will officially be a doctor on May 31st, 2020. She plans to go into family medicine residency, specializing […]
When I met Jessica, the first thing I noticed was her radiance…and her gorgeous hair (I envy that hair). She has a warm energy that glows from the inside out. Part of her allure is that she doesn’t seem to realize just how beautiful she is…it’s either that or she’s extraordinarily humble. This 40 year old mother of two used […]
“True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.” ~ Audrey Hepburn So often in photography we see images of fashion model types who are photoshopped to what is generally perceived as perfection; however, I feel it’s our imperfections that make us unique and beautiful. I find that I’m more drawn to photographs that express authenticity. It got me thinking that I’d like to do a series of photo shoots/blog posts that portray the strength and beauty of real women. I want to show that genuine radiance is not about flawless hair or makeup, high fashion, or a perfect physique. I believe it’s about being comfortable in our own skin and not being afraid to show our vulnerabilities. It’s about self-expression and living with intention. It’s about learning, growing, and facing adversity with the heart of a warrior. The first photo shoot of my series took place the other day. The lovely woman who will be featured embodies all the characteristics I mentioned above. I cannot wait to share her images, which will be coming soon. I will (hopefully) have several more women to follow. Stay tuned.
